An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced electrical engineer specializing in Protection and Controls Design to join a growing Substation Engineering team. This role involves developing and designing 7.2kV-345kV protection and control systems for utility applications while working in a collaborative environment.
This position requires strong multitasking abilities, handling multiple complex projects, and prioritizing effectively. Responsibilities include drafting and designing engineering deliverables for utility Distribution and Substation projects, engaging with clients, and coordinating across offices. Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and supervise the development of engineering deliverables for substation projects, including:
- Electrical one-line diagrams, protection system designs, and network system architecture
- Detailed physical layouts, construction drawings, and programming
- Equipment selection, material specifications, cost estimates, and bill of materials
- Control building designs, including AC/DC panels, batteries, and chargers
- Preparation of bid and construction contract documents
- SCADA system upgrades and integrations
- Switchgear, bus work, recloser, and circuit breaker control operations
- CT sizing and selection
- Relay panel design and wiring
- Advanced protective relay applications (SEL, GE, Basler, ABB)
Additional Duties:
- Manage project work, ensuring adherence to schedules and quality standards
- Provide technical recommendations and solutions for electrical protection systems
- Perform detailed engineering calculations, site investigations, and QC/QA reviews
- Develop design facilities based on client standards
- Prepare equipment specifications
- Interface regularly with clients and external stakeholders
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field from an ABET-accredited program plus 3 years of engineering experience (consulting preferred)
- OR Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or related Engineering Technology plus successful completion of the FE exam and 3 years of engineering experience (consulting preferred)
- OR Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering plus 2 years of engineering experience (consulting preferred)
Preferred Qualifications:
- PE License or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification (or willingness to obtain)
- 2+ years of industry experience
- Strong knowledge of substation protection/control systems, relay settings, and construction standards
- Familiarity with NEC, API, NEMA, IEEE, and ANSI engineering standards
- Ability to tackle complex problems requiring adaptation and modification of industry techniques
Must be willing to work onsite full-time
