Keyboard your way to efficiency

Q. If I want to access something on my Desktop, I have to first minimize all the windows. Is there a keyboard shortcut to do this quickly?

A. Yes, there is. Press the Windows Logo, M, and the Spacebar and all open windows will minimize to reveal the Desktop. If you press SHIFT, Windows Logo, M, and the Spacebar, then all open windows will maximize.

Q. Is there a quick way to open a Search?

A. Pressing the Windows Logo and F buttons opens the Search Program. Windows XP users can press the F3 button.

Q. What keyboard shortcuts are the most common?

A. Here is a list that almost everyone can benefit from.
  1. CTRL-S—Saves current document.
  2. CTRL-P—Prints the current document.
  3. CTRL-A—Selects all files in the current window or all content of the current document.
  4. CTRL-C—Copies selected text.
  5. CTRL-X—Cuts selected items.
  6. CTRL-V—Pastes copied or cut items.
  7. CTRL-B—Bolds selected text.
  8. CTRL-I—Italicizes selected text.
  9. CTRL-U—Underlines selected text.
  10. CTRL-Z—Undoes last command.
  11. CTRL-Y—Repeats last command.
  12. ALT-Print Screen—Copies the current window as a screen shot that you can paste into a graphics program such as Paint. You can then save the screen shot as a graphics file you can print or email to your technical support person so they can see exactly what that error message said.
  13. ALT-F4—Closes the current program or window that is open. This is especially helpful if you get those annoying pop up ads. You can close windows quicker than trying to find that little X in the right hand corner. Some pop ups remove the X so it is harder to close.
