How long do DVDs last?

Q. I want to purchase a DVD Burner. If I burn my home videos from my VHS to DVD discs, how long can I expect them to last?

A. There are currently six different types of DVD media: DVD-R(G), DVD-R(A), DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW, and DVD-RAM. Each type can last for more than 100 years except for DVD-RAM, which has a life expectancy of more than 30 years.
